Pilots to Government: UFO Investigations a Matter of National Security
By Brandon Keim November 13, 2007 | 11:06:36 AMCategories: Government, Mystery, Space
Nineteen former pilots and government officials have asked the United States to intensify investigations of unidentified flying objects, calling the reports a national security concern that shouldn't be casually dismissed.
The group is hard to dismiss as a bunch of stereotypical UFO crackpots. Many of them are ex-military; several claim to have personally encountered UFOs.
Fife Symington, an ex-air force pilot and former Arizona goveror who claims to have seen a UFO in 1997, told Agence-France Press that "We want the US government to stop perpetuating the myth that all UFOs can be explained away in down-to-earth, conventional terms."
In a statement, the group declared that "for reasons of both national security and flight safety, every country should make an effort to identify any object in its airspace."
Fair enough, though I'd rather have the government searching for UFOs out of intergalactic good will rather than concern about the home planet. Then again, Dennis Kucinich was on the panel -- don't laugh, Ronald Reagan said he saw a UFO, too -- so at least someone will be there to welcome the little green men with open arms and inexpensive health care.
UFOs are no joke, group says [Agence-France Presse]

Actually, Carol, I think there was a separate thread about this - the one regarding the session at the National Press Club. I think it was just another round-up of the usual suspects. It was unusual that they got to plead their case in front of the national news media but, as you can see, the pebble dropped into the pond with nary a ripple.
If the government actually knows something (and I'm not saying that they do), I don't know why anyone thinks they will, all of a sudden, come clean on the subject. Personally though, I don't think they know any more than we do and they don't consider it a real problem so they're in no hurry to spend precious time, money and resources on something for which there's a low probability of return.
A lot of people have asphyxiated while holding their breath waiting for the government to do anything about UFOs.

| fair nuff Skep, but you know what, immigration illegal immigration has been going on for eons,it wasnt until the people themselves made an issue of it that it got the attention that it has, still the government wants little to do with it if at all, what has happen is its up to the individuale states to enforce the laws on their own particular books and thats exactly what there doing, amazing things happen when the public gets involved. The problem here as I see it is theres no direction no bandwagon on which to jump, theres millions of us out here that are interested in this subject including pilots. But they have nowhere to turn,no one person to turn to,we like to think the government just might have some answers and I for one believe they know just a little more than we do.Its a start, reliable people like airline pilots and they are the most reliable people can come together and open their own website,I mean that, pilots from all over the world can join, the rest of us can read but not post, thats important. The person or persons running that board will have to verify that the person claiming to both be a pilot and have had a sighting will admit those that have credibility or whos claims can be verified. But would this draw some attention,Im sure it would.Maybe, between themselves they can educate others as to what to glean from a sighting, what was it they wished they had done but didnt, what would they tell other pilots yet to see a ufo? Id love to see such a website. My first question to such a pilot having a sighting is do they radio back to other pilots that will fly a similar pattern,do they ask for verification from other than ground control. What about the co-pilot does he see the same thing since he sits side by side with the pilot, thats two people seeing the same thing right there, theres got to be a way for these men to have a website discussing nothing but there individuale sightings.

Carol Nistri.
I think that is a great idea Carol, I suggest some of us start sending e-mails to the pilots from the National Press Club meeting, requesting that they form such a website. It will be hard for American pilots to join in, as they are often suspended for making such reports on the grounds of being mentally ill, but if other countries start the website then it might become easier for American pilots to join in at a later date. _________________ Keep watching the skies.

| hi Phil, and thanks,I heard a few years ago that they no longer suspend american pilots for reporting ufos, but they dont make it easy for them to do so,they just cant call it in,theve got to handwrite a report and its then sent to the FAA where it disappears for all time, the pilot never hears back from them.We could speculate what then happens to the report but Im guessing that it goes to a reporting center and compared to information gathered from a NORAD like facility.Wait, somethings bugging me Im going to answer someone on another board abut this.
