When did flying saucers become extraterrestrials?

Frank Warren is one of our more astute UFO archivists and, on his Internet blog site, Knowledge Is Power, he provides a steady stream of UFO related newspaper articles, many dating back into the 1800s. His most recent post is a UPI article from July 8, 1947:

This goes back to our recent discussion of when exactly people started equating UFOs to extraterrestrials. This article would indicate that, while observations of the phenomenon skyrocketed in the weeks following the Kenneth Arnold sighting, people were still thinking in terms of the Russians or even a secret US military project.

This article coincides with the alleged Roswell event. It would be neat to turn up an article from late July to see what, if any, impact that may have had on public perceptions.

not only are they reported in all fifty states but they are now reported in every country on earth.Thats saying something.Just think of a country and do a search for a ufo reporting center and you will see that this has now become a worldwide phenomenon.
