As we noted in another thread, freeforums, our hosting service, is upgrading to PHP3, the latest version of the software that drives our D47 forums. The upgrade is supposed to start on July 7th but, on additional reading, I find that we may have some control over when the switch-over will take place.
As noted, all our forums and posts will be brought forward. However, we will probably go back to some kind of default page lay-out - so don't be surprised if you see a very simple black writing on a white background to start. I am not sure how much functionality will go away. Some of the add-ons we have now are actually incorporated into the basic software in PHP3. If I have the chance, I may try to do some quick beta testing before we cut-over - just so I can give you a better idea of what to expect.
Ultimately, PHP3 is supposed to provide a lot more functionality. I hope you will bear with us as we try to figure out what's what.

I hope the new upgrades will be compatible with webtv users!!
If not, I will be unable to post anymore. _________________ "It's our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

I don't think there should be anything in PHP3 that should be too upsetting to WebTV, Scam. I think the difference is in the software and not in the high-level architecture. WebTV shouldn't really be able to tell the difference.
How does WebTV work - I assume it comes through your TV set? Does it have its own browser or do you use something like Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Yes, webtv is a box that connects to a tv.
I subscribe to msn and the browser comes with it. I cannot use Internet Explorer or Firefox or anything that requires a download to see or hear.
I cannot use Java Script...it's all html.
So, even though I have full access to the Internet, I cannot access every single site.
It seems that more and more sites are excluding webtv users by not being compatible with them.
But...my web cannot crash or be affected by a virus...which is nice. _________________ "It's our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

Webtv users won't be affected by the change, or at least shouldn't. _________________ http://www.ufoalley.net

Looks like we may have some choice as to when we have to "upgrade" to PHP3. Frankly, I think that I will maintain the status quo for a while. Sound like the new version doesn't have a lot to offer us and, in fact, would probably cause some loss of functionality. Hopefully, the transition will be a slow one. I'm not sure that any of us have the time or patience for a major upheaval at this time.

Still no big push for us to upgrade to the new forum software. Sounds like the early adopters are having some problems so we may as well sit back and let them take the lumps while they sort out the bugs. Hopefully we can delay the transition until things are more stable.

Yeah, it was supposed to be done July 7th. They keep on pushing it back because of problems. _________________ http://www.ufoalley.net
