I agree. This doesn't bode well for the UFO community as a whole. The more hoaxes that are out there, the more people that will lose interest. I don't think it will stop it all together, but it will diminish the subject to a certainpoint that it will return to the early days of Ufology where anyone claiming a sighting will be seen as a kook. Yes there are those that are seen like that now, but not as many as there used to be.

Has anyone interviewed this Mr Walson about his videos? If he wants to remain anonymous, they can still interview him confidentially. I'm no investigator, but surely someone out there would want to have these videos scrutinised by unbiased professionals?

Carol - found this on Wikipedia:

Parque Metropolitano - This vast park is home to Cerro San Cristóbal. From the top there is a beautiful view over the city and, on a clear day, the Andes. The summit can be reached by funicular, cable car, or a long hike. In the park there is also a botanical garden, zoo and two swimming pools. Pope John Paul II visited its summit in 1987.

Assuming the clip is not an animation of some type, I would be very tempted to say that we're seeing lighted cable cars.

We are not quite as bad as this (yet).

UFO debate invades politicians' space

TOKYO (Reuters) - A debate over flying saucers has kept Japanese politicians occupied for much of this week, ensnaring top officials and drawing a promise from the defense minister to send out the army if Godzilla goes on a rampage.

"There are debates over what makes UFOs fly, but it would be difficult to say it's an encroachment of air space," Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba told a news conference Thursday.

"If Godzilla were to show up, it would be a dispatch for disaster relief."

His remarks came after the top government spokesman was asked Tuesday about an opposition politician's demand that the government confirm the existence of unidentified flying objects.

"Personally, I definitely believe they exist," chief cabinet secretary Nobutaka Machimura said, drawing laughter from reporters.

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda took a more guarded stance later in the day, saying he has yet to confirm their existence.

The debate started Tuesday when the cabinet issued a statement in response to the opposition lawmaker's question, saying it could not confirm any cases of UFO sightings.

Not all lawmakers are enthralled.

"Give me a break," ruling party lawmaker Toshihiro Nikai was quoted as saying by the Yomiuri newspaper. "There are many (other) things politics has to respond to."

If you look at the clip again, pay special attention after the view pans to the right. On top of one of the hills is something that looks like a high tension tower. I believe that could be one of the towers for the cable car system - you can even see a light glimmering at the base of it that looks similar to the moving lights.

Now, some of the lights seem to be moving fast for a cable car but there may be a little time-lapse on the video - meaning that it has been sped up. Not saying it is a sure thing, but I would certainly want to rule that out before I call these true UFOs.

I did see that light you were referring to,and Its making more and more sense that they are cable cars.

Skep. Could you provide a link to your video? Using a proxy server to access D47 is great, but it won't play any flash videos for some reason.

Carol, that's a good find. I wish we could find out more about that video as it is very intriguing.

I really do think Skeptical hit on its being cable cars, however if anyone here speaks the language it would be interesting to know what it is there saying.

The following link allows you to view, I think, pretty much all of the 'FAST' videos so far made. After opening the link just move the slide bar on the right side of the video screen to make a video selection.

Here is yet another video.

John Lenard Walson.
Many things have been said about the way John Lenard Walson can film into space,at satellites and other thing. He does not know what the objects on film are, but Gerry Gilmore was very kind enough to identify some of the objects that are the real star wars hardware up in space.

Hello again,
and again my congratulations on your superb astrophotography
You are clearly getting some images at almost the diffraction limit of
your telescope. In the very sharpest images there are hints of diffraction
rings visible on the edges of the satellites. That is of course the
absolute limit of optical performance, and is only rarely attained.
Interestingly, the process you have, of using a high-quality imaging
system, with fast read-out, and then selecting the rare `perfect' images
is something which has been developed and applied somewhat by one of my
colleagues here. You might like to look at our local web page presenting
some of this:
http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~optics/Luck...

You might also be interested in a journal produced by the
MIT Lincoln Laboratory - which is the group which has built some of the
things you are seeing. Much of what they do is what used to be the
Star wars project, which no doubt involves some of your objects. They
don't talk about the military satellites,
of course, but there are many dicussions of earth surveillance, and
related issues. It is distributed only to academic organisations, so
you may need to get your local library to borrow it, but you
may be able to get this (for free) from

Mason is baffled by how the guy can get a sunlit satellite photo at 3:30 in the morning, when the Sun is way, way below the horizon. He says 'You've got to be pretty high' -- in altitude, like ten thousand miles or more. Our hero completely misunderstands, thinks Mason is talking about angle, and says, yeah it was straight up.

Absolutely looniness. If the stuff was real, other people would have noticed and published.

Thanks for your information.

I was told recently that some of my private emails, related entirely to
general principles of short-exposure astrophotography, had been used
publicly and out of context, on a different web site than that you
mention (I apologise that I am unfamiliar with any of these sites - I
don't have a lot of spare time for such reading).

In consequence, I told John Lenard/Walson I was, and remain, utterly
opposed to any such abuse of privacy.

I shall remind him again that such behaviour is unacceptable and dishonest.

I very much regret if this is continuing. It is entirely without my permission, and indeed is expressly in violation of my specific
statements.

You may be assured I am also quite certain there are no `alien' craft in space, artifacts on the moon, etc, etc, a point I in fact have made to
Lenard/Walson.

I thank you for the information.

I think we all understand Gil's ire at this kind of thing entirely.

I'm curious about the technology this kid is using and exactly what equipment he has been looking at. One of the very reasons why we seldom get commentary from professionals such as Gil.
