For anyone who missed it, the U.S. Navy launched a missile to pulverize a dying spy satellite last night. Scored a rather spectacular direct hit:
Hmmm, can't help but wonder why we didn't use one of our reverse-engineered alien technology spacecraft to go up and hit it with a zero-point energy beam...

I wonder if anyone saw the falling debris and thought it was a ufo?

That satelite had gotten out of control and had to be brought down in pieces. Outherwise we would have had to count with the second episode of Roswell. One Roswell was probably enough for everybody and so they shot the satelite down before it came that far.

I have to admit, it was an impressive shot. I am sure there were probably electronics aboard that the US didn't want to risk falling into unfriendly hands. However, I think the biggest threat was that fuel tank. Hydrazine is pretty nasty stuff. Now, if they could have arranged to drop it on Tehran...

This shoot-down is a pretty powerful example of what our missile defense system will be capable of if we keep at it. The same missile defense initiatives Barack Obama has called "unproven".
The Chinese have a lot of chutzpah to be complaining about this like they are, calling it a step towards the weaponization of space. The fact that China made a much more dangerous satellite shootdown earlier on has been conveniently omitted from their complaints. They also seem to have forgotten that they tried blinding a U.S. satellite with a laser a while back.
