It seems that British marine biologists have found themselves a six-legged octopus - hence the new designation of hexapus:

It reminds me of all the ribbing that Ray Harryhausen took for the five-legged pentapus in the 50's movie It Came from Beneath The Sea. Harryhausen's excuse was that the film didn't have the budget to animate all eight legs. Very Happy

Yes, I saw this the other day on a Crypto website that I visit occassionally. It's amazing what nature can spring upon us when we least expect it.

Personally, I'm keeping an eye on the Antartica expedition to find new species of sea life:

You know, with all the things they are finding in the inhospitably frigid waters of the Antarctic, it really makes me wonder whether or not we'll find something swimming in the oceans of the moons of Jupiter or Saturn. With each new discovery, we're finding out just how tenacious and creative life can be.

Personally, I think we will find that life is a pretty common thing throughout the universe. Rather than being the chance result of a rare set of circumstances, I tend to think that the mechanisms of the universe are specifically geared toward encouraging life (either that or life has specifically evolved to survive among those mechanisms). In other words, given a fairly stable environment and just a few building blocks, life is the default.

If we have the courage to go out and look, I think we will be forever amazed at how opportunistic and resilient life can be.

It is amazing how life always seems to defy the odds stacked against it, and continually defies naysayers who claim life can't exist in a given environment or under difficult conditions. You just have to look at the amazing assortment of organisms living in the dark, frigid depths of the ocean under extreme pressure and environment conditions, and the incredible survival methods they have evolved, and you can easily envision life in other regions of the universe. Life always seems to find a way.

Exactly. Who says that life has to breath oxygen? I think that life can exist without what we or fish need to survive. Just think, out there in the universe, there may be life that breaths hydrogen, nitrogen or any other gases. We've all seen Star Trek, all those aliens they have come across could be possible. Very Happy
