I think it is pretty clear that the F-86 and MIG-15 of Korean War fame were both direct descendants of Nazi designs (Focke-Wulf I believe). It's also not hard to see how the YB-49 Flying Wing owes much to the work of the Horten brothers. But, while German designers were certainly forward thinkers, we should be extremely careful about ascribing to them powers of imagination or feats of engineering which they do not deserve.

We must require some pretty specific evidence before we should even consider that Third Reich designers progressed any further than jet propulsion. As far as I know, that evidence simply does not exist.

i agree. I think you have to look at it from another point of view as if you were an intelligence officer and consider this technology from a vantage point of possibilities based on evidence and then analyse evidence toward the likelyhood of any theory being true or false. However, on the other hand we do know what a Horton V4 looked like and can compare it to what Arnold saw. This is not evidence but is certainly provocative. I think we have a dynamic of either extremely coincidental events or something else.. We know there were individuals such as scientists, SS and physical facilities assigned to the Wunderwaffe. We do know that many were either executed, folded into NASA, or placed themselves into hiding. Another striking feature is that the Nazi-NASA employees were highly trained specialists in specific fields and yet officially, they were assigned areas so far from their training it begs to be questioned. We do have film of highly strange unidentified phenomenon above 51, always tested at night. We do know the CIA has a history of manipulating the extraterrestrial straw dog. Out of all the resources placed behind this Wunderwaffe, all the documentation specific to the details are missing which is in direct contradiction to 1.2.We do know that the US raced against the Russian advance to gather specifically technological targets. All of this is more than provocative but we have no weapon, no proof . On the other hand, we do have evidence, hard copy documents such as personel records, the scientists specialities, location of facilities and progress reports. I think you would agree theres a strong likelyhood that further investigation is warranted. Unlike others, what I find fascinating is not so much jumping to conclusions but exploring possibilities which are certainly there to suggest something was afoot...but what? I cannot discount my investigation by putting the cart before the horse and demand proof prior to making enquiries. That is the point...to find proof one way or the other. I think where all this gets entangled is confusing advanced weapontry with ufo's which suits those who are testing them just fine.

I agree that it would be very intriguing to find out more about Operation Paperclip - just to see how and how many Nazi scientists were incorporated into post-war US scientific programs. I imagine we would probably be horrified at some of the folks that were let off the hook because it was perceived they could provide us with some advantage over the Soviets.

Sadly, this is one instance where an orchestrated government cover-up actually worked. By the time anyone had a real idea of what was going on, decades had elapsed, people had died, and records had disappeared.

As it is, I think the U.S. gleaned as much good information from the Nazi files as they could. Not everything on a German drawing board was workable - at least not in 1946. For example, there were plans for a plane that looks very much like the current V-22 Osprey (engines rotate from helicopter to conventional airplane). They also had a plan for a jet with wings that swept forward like the X-29. They had several models that called for swing-wings like in the F-111 and the Concorde. By 1940s standards, these were absolutely revolutionary ideas - but a drawing does not make a prototype, let alone an operational aircraft.

As for disc-shaped craft, the closest I can see is a Focke-Wulf VTOL design:

The whole legend that had grown up around Nazi flying saucers seems to be just that - legend.

Bruce,
Thanks for the info; I have read a fair amount on Operation Paperclip over the years and there is no doubt that many scientists and others went into our govts various programs and intel groups. The head of the Gestapo ended up organizing aspects of the CIA from what many have said over the years...so anything is possible.

Bruce,
Thanks for the info on possible post WW2 tech from Germany.
It is well known that scientists and others were taken into US agencies and one of the Gestapo heads even helped to organize the CIA for the US. So it's certainly possible that a lot of secret material was used by the US that they obtained in this manner.

This is a second post since I lost the first one to this wonderful server we have....but then it appeared.
