I have no trouble believing that human beings aren't doing Mother Earth any good, but I have a real problem shouldering all of the blame for climate change. I think we know too little about long-term cyclic changes to understand fully how the ecosystem really works and now, finally, it seems I am not alone:

Again, I think there is plenty that man can do to be a better steward of this planet. However, I think it is arrogant of us to believe that we know all there is to know about how Earth operates.

(Al, don't clear the spot on the mantle for that trophy just yet...)

That's right... and how do we KNOW that underground nuclear testing and Chernobyl and chemical agents used to kill, are NOT affecting our planet globally?? Of course they are!! Those are NOT natural cyclic occurances that we cannot control.
We cannot control nature but we can abuse it and damage it!! Nature is not dependent on us, we are dependent on nature.
Perhaps some of these scientists are more afraid of losing their ability to "test" things that could ( in the long run) be harmful to the planet more than they care about what effects global warming will have on future generations!!

IMO..it's a matter of common sense and science. It's obvious that our emissions from factories ,cars , etc have to be affecting the planet in some way. The question is how much, is it reversable, and do we need to stop it now or later?
If we continue on the present course we will evntually ruin this world; there is no doubt on that imo.

Here's a little more fuel for the skeptic's fire (non-fossil fuel, of course):

Doc, I agree with you that we have been lousy stewards of the Earth in the last few hundred years. It does not hurt us one bit to green-up our processes from top to bottom. The thing I resent is the heavy-handed, fear-based approach that the media and some scientists have chosen to take on this. This premature closure of debate serves no one's best interests and may actually cause us to lose some precious opportunities to discovery how Gaea actually manages her eco-system.

I don't think the scientists that are alarmed about global warming (and it seems like the majority of the worlds experts are) are blowing smoke , but I'm sure some political pundits are usng it to their advantage.
I do think we have a growing problem but when will it start to really affect us and when should we start to curb our emissions?

Hey Doc, don't put that winter parka into the yard sale pile yet. Here's the latest from NASA and others stating that the Sun may be headed into a quiet period which may mean an extended hockey season for us:

If a period of intense cold is coming, we may be glad we put all the extra CO2 into the atmosphere. Confused

What happened to that cold spot..? It's been over 40 for 5 days now in north west Indiana and hit 60 yesterday.
I got my suntan lotion out.

Cool

yes we had a nor'easter yesterday with more snow due by friday, but NONE of us are willing to give up those very things we believe are harming the planet.Would you give up your car? Mass transit perhaps, would you not buy those things produced by the factories that are adding to the problem? How about no more fireplace fires? Its easy to talk a good game about our fault etc.but when it comes to actually doing something about it we will be cloth bags instead of having our groceries put in plastic bags and be smug about our contribution.
