Doc - the Guidestones are mentioned in this this full-length (2+ hour) doc on the Bilderbergs and the New World Order.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1070329053600562261
I started watching it and it was actually mildly interesting. They talk a lot about world domination but I think that is old-world thinking. You don't have to control every facet of life on the planet to still have "effective" control of it. This concept would allow you to benefit from all the good parts without having to worry about all the messy, inconvenient parts. The movie does mention reducing the human population by about 80%. I wouldn't think the NWO would want to eliminate that many potential consumers. However, I'm sure it all makes perfect sense to the people who are losing sleep over this stuff.

Skep,
Yes..I think I posted that link here somewhere to Jones' video called Endgame. He's a little too far out for me though I do think he has some aspects correct on what the globalists are up to. Where I part company with him and David Icke is the alien and satanic nonsense they bring into the tale. As far as the Illuminati, I doubt seriously if that group ever survived through the years but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some modern version/facsimile of it active in some rich wealthy circles of those who manipulate global economics and influence govts. (eg; Bilderbergers, CFR, RIIA, etc).
Even though Jim Marrs is a bit out there for me his book Rule By Secrecy has a lot of excellent info and data on these very real groups over the years. Again I discount the Illuminati/alien stuff at the very end. To me that's just sensationalism on his part.
For those who want a serious academic look I ecommend Tragedy And Hope by Prof Quigley who was a college mentor to Bill Clinton btw. His book goes into the early years of these globalist power brokers who started this whole NWO trend in certain elite circles. Quigley personally knew Cecil Rhodes of the Rhodes scholar fame and fortune. Rhodes was one of the early players in these NWO groups. _________________ "Some say the valley has always been haunted ever since River ran.

It's interesting that the stones are accompanied by a additional tablet telling you their measurements. That implies that the real message of the stones is contained within their proportions - and that their designer was concerned that erosion over the eons might lead to that message being lost.
Does anyone here have an interest in sacred geometry? _________________ Gef - the Eighth Wonder of the World

I know of 'sacred geometry' in passing from reading a few books about the Templars and feemasons, but I am not well read on it.
(Somerville who used to post here knows a litle about it and apparently this other poster called andymonk)
Do you think it's meaningful in any way other than of historical note? _________________ "Some say the valley has always been haunted ever since River ran.

I will have to take another look at the Jim Marrs site, Doc. It still seems to me that he finds a conspiracy under every bush (no pun intended). But there may still be some elements of objective truth in what he says.
Again, I think the idea of overt, world domination is kind of an old-fashioned concept. You really don't have to physically subjugate someone to have "effective" control over them. Frankly, that is more insidious than a storm trooper on every corner. You will never know what thoughts or actions are truly your own - you will always have to wonder whether you have been manipulated in some way to think or act as you do.
I guess I don't understand the whole megalomania thing anyway. Is your life substantively different if you only have 10 billion dollars instead of 100 billion? Surely, there must be a limit at which acquisitions of any type - people, land, wealth or anything - simply lose all meaning. I suppose that is when things really get scary - how would people act if they were that jaded?

I think it may be intended to be meaningful. Alternatively, the whole thing may just be some kind of absurdist joke intended to make people search for meaning where there is none.
But I certainly think it would be worthwhile comparing the proportions of the guidestones with those of various ancient sacred monuments, or with the tenets of Pythagorean sacred geometry. Unfortunately, those are both subjects I am completely ignorant about. _________________ Gef - the Eighth Wonder of the World
