OK -- Skeptical's Law #1 -- Proof of UFOs will never originate in Mexico.

when we were over on ufo planet didnt someone named Jimmy come on board to say that these particular lights were attributed to oil drill fires? The video doesnt show me anything to get excited about but if this is the same video it was shot by a crew using infrared light wasnt it? I cant say I see much of anything except in the first frame where it shows those two lights I think I can see a reflection of those lights in water.Im not sure of that but there does seem to be some reflection.

The thing that bugs me is that the vaunted Mexican Air Force never went back and duplicated the flight or, more likely, they did duplicate it and saw that the lights were from the oil derricks and they were just too embarrassed to come clean.

but it would seem that oil fires from off shore oil rigs would be a common sight, seen all the time by many crews from many planes.

Correct. They were oil derricks burning off excess. And they are claimed as a common sight.

I would think it would be easy to check that area and find out if there were oil derrick fires burning there on the night in question.

Exstensive investigation was done. It found the rigs in question, made comparison video, calculated direction and bearings, examined the Infrared equipment, and deduced the derricks were responsible.

If these oil rigs were well known then why did the pilots not realize this at an early stage?

Sometimes weather conditions alter how a common sight looks.

Well, it was suggested several times, that embarrassment at having made a fuss played a part in their reticience to own up.

The sighting was not visual from what I understand, but FLIR with a very long range.
