I guess you cant really call in an encounter but its what got me going on UFOs.A sighting my husband and I had in the late seventies. We were on our way home from Danbury Ct.Just before we turned off the highway my husband looked up thru the windshield and asked "whats that?",I looked to see a bright white light going from left to right,we were into the turn at that moment and neither of us made much of it. A few miles later we pulled into our driveway at 40 Raymond Road,South Windsor Ct. he parked the car I went thru the car port out into the back yard to take Count out of his kennel,he was just a six month old shepard at the time. Just as I stepped off the car port onto the patio I noticed a bright white light out of the corner of my eye.I let the wildly excited puppy out of his kennel then called my husband,he came out in time to see three other lights coming from north south and west they joined the first light and stopped dead in the sky. This was incredible, there were only choppers that could stop in the night sky,yet these lights were making zero sound. They stopped there and didnt move, long enough so I could call the police dept. The phone rang and rang and at first I thought I had dialed the wrong number. When they answered they did so this way." Are you calling about the four lights in the sky",then he told me the entire police dept was on a small hill watching the lights with binnoculars. My husband spoke to the officer explaining that he was in the air force and had never seen anything like what we were watching, the policeman said he too was in the service at one time and these were not choppers. My husband then called Westover Air Base in Chicopee Mass.he was stationed there at the time. Roland the guy manning radar that night had nothing on his radar screen.( Ive got to go right now but basically thats my story, the next day I tore off to the library to collect every book ever written on the subject and read each and every one of them, been at it ever since, its the single most frustrating subject in the world)

Gee, Carol, in all the time we've been posting together, I don't think I ever heard the entire story of your sighting. Just out of curiosity, did the sighting make your local newspapers?

I admit I am a bit jealous because my one and only sighting occurred in 1969 when I was 14. I think I've told you that I've come to doubt my own observation because I was so young and excited. I wish I could see one now as an adult - just to affirm that I wasn't just a kid with an overactive imagination.

That town I mentioned,South Windsor Ct.had a tiny news paper because it was a town of about 10,000 people.I think the name of it was The Inquirer or The Enquirer and yes the next day on the back pages was a tiny little box that barely mentioned the event,it did however say that the police dept received 500 calls on those four lights. It concluded saying that the four lights were from four choppers out of Westover Air Base,my husband said there were zero choppers at West Over. I called the police station to talk to the officer we had spoken to the night of this happening, they said he was on vacation, lol.

Skeptical, how would one go about getting into the archives of that paper? Id love to look up the article.

Carol, the best thing to do would be to check with the local public library. They usually have an archive of the local paper - probably on microfilm. Check to see if the library has a website and then see if they have an e-mail for their reference desk. If so, e-mail them and ask them if they have it. Reference desk librarians are usually a lot of help. I had one who helped me investigate a black triangle sighting down in Texas.

If the library is no help, e-mail the paper. They may have some nominal fee for digging it up but at least you would have that little confirmation of your experience.
