There's a new video clip of what appears to be a lot of shiny little lights in the night sky - only this time, instead of the deafening silence of its Mexican counterparts, this video features the lilting brogue of a Welch woman (OK, so I'm a sucker for British accents!):

At least she didn't say "Holy sh-t!" like on all the US videos. Regardless, I don't buy these as anything anomalous - you're going to have to prove that these aren't just balloons first.

The skeptics always used to say that the famous Lubbock Lights (1951, I believe) were actually light reflecting off the bellies of flying geese. I suppose that is always a possibility but I never thought of large groups of birds flying at night.
Here's the pic. Seems a little too perfect for geese, doesn't it?
As for this new clip, the chances for hoax are too high to just accept this at face value.

They remind me of one of my old arguments from other forums. They look like the flickering lights of the flames inside Sky Lanterns that you can buy and set up yourself. These Lanterns are becoming more and more popular, so it stands to reason that videos like this are becoming more common.
For those of you who have never heard of these, here is a website selling them. It was the first one I found in Google.

| ah,there you are Hopo,ok kid its do or die time, youve just got to sleep outside while the weather is good, get yourself a sleeping bag find a hillside and camp out, your being inundated with ufos and the chance may never come again. Skep, where I grew up the Hockumum river was across the street, one of the favorite things to do was to sit out on the front porch in the fall of the year and watch flocks of geese rise up off of the river and take off for their breeding grounds, this always happend at night, when they flew over the house they had'nt gained any altitude and you could see there white underbellies. So birds especially geese do indeed fly at night.

Hopo - those Chinese lanterns aren't cheap - but if someone is spending money for a wedding or some other memorable occasion, a few hundred bucks for a sky show might seem like a small investment.
We tried to make some of these ourselves when we were kids. We used dry cleaning bags and a burning cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol. Not nearly as good as the professional models but they did fly and they looked pretty eerie.

I know what you mean Carol. Cardiff seems to be the hottest of places for UFO's at the moment, and as we are only about 96 miles from there as the crow flies, it's possible we may see something. I would have to go on Dartmoor though. Camping is illegal unless it's on designated camp sites, or on private land, and THEN only if you have permission from the land owner. But there's nothing stopping me from taking my car and driving up there for a few hours. Problem is that with no streelights, Dartmoor can be an eerie place at night when you can only see a few feet in front of you. The advantage there is that without artificial light pollution, the night sky is crystal clear. The disadvantage is that with Cows, Sheep, and wild Ponies wandering around, you can jump out of your skin if one suddenly materialises in front of you out of the dark.
But hey, all I need is a torch, a picnic blanket, a flask of coffee, and something to snack on, oh and not forgetting a digital camera, and binoculars, and I could be set for a few hours. I'll have to give this some thought, and see if any friends want to go, although I seem to be the only one amongst my friends who has an interest in Ufology.

| One thing I love about England is your gorgeous gorgeous countryside. And parts of the english countryside is rather hilly is it not? I wouldnt camp out if I had to ask the landowners permission but I would find a place to park where you could see the night sky for miles around. Having someone go with you is a must, even if its a girl.

Hopo - one of these days I have got to spend some time in England. I would love to see sunrise at Stonehenge and visit the many historic sites there. I may have to take Carol's advice and rent myself a pretty red-haired English lass to act as tour guide (hmmm, wonder what Mrs. Skeptical would have to say about that?!).

Well Skep and Carol, the English countryside is indeed a beautiful place, though Dartmoor has a rugged beauty like this picture:
There are ancient stone circles, and stone hut remains all over Dartmoor.
I once had a friend in America who visited me on several occassions, and I took her to Stonehenge. She was disappointed because all that was there was........ Stonehenge. She was expecting a restaurant/ cafe, restrooms, souvenir shop, and a place that gives you info on Stonehenge. It is nothing like that. There is just Stonehenge, and nothing else. You can't even go up to the stones and touch them any more. They have been fenced off so that no-one can chip a piece of stone off as a keepsake, like people used to do 15 to 20 years ago. And there are security guards to make sure that you keep to the perimeter path. Yes the fence is only ankle high, but there are signs saying that you cannot go beyond it, except during the summer solstice of course.
You two will have to get together with your partners and come visit England. If you came to Devon, I could be your tour guide.
