|
|
I am seeking any new information on a possible UFO crash and/or detonation near Mesquite, Nevada. The object passed
over Las Vegas and was reported in the local paper. This incident occurred April 18, 1962. Kevin Randle and a few others
have published brief reports on the incident, but everything stops short of possible retrieval of a craft, bodies, exact location
where it may have come down. Local reporter George Knapp interviewed a Las Vegas Deputy Sheriff who led a search team
which the Deputy claims found nothing. I contacted this man's wife, and she told me he suffers from Alzheimer's, so he could
not speak with me.
I plan to send an FOIA request to Nellis Air Force Base, and possibly further investigate, but any new leads would help. I
live in Las Vegas, so I'm in a position to pursue this. Anyone is welcome to contact me, whatever you know will help. Second
hand, third hand information, whatever, just something I can follow up on. Anonymity will be respected.

I do actually own the book this information was
quoted from, but thank you, anyway, Carol. I look
forward to participating in the forum. _________________ "They only have one policy. Deny everything." -X

I was going to suggest that you get in touch with George Knapp since he seems to be Vegas' local ufologist - but I see you've already done that.
I saw this little blip - I assume this the same sighting you're interested in?
April 18, 1962
A UFO is seen by many witnesses to fly across the United States. First seen near Oneida, New York, it is reported in several states. A UFO, probably the same one, lands near a power substation in Utah, causing a large blackout. The UFO later apparently explodes in western New Mexico, lighting up the evening ski in nearby Reno. The light of the explosion is reportedly visible in California. The Atomic Energy Commission denies that any nuclear test is conducted on this day. Air Force personnel state to reporters that the UFO has been tracked on radar.
Also, this from the NICAP site (with multiple secondary links):

You might also want to contact Ryan Wood who recently put out a good book on alleged saucer crashes called MAJIC: EYES ONLY. His website is:

Thank you for the help. The NICAP account is one I hadn't heard. I'll try Ryan Wood, see what he knows. Any help I can get.... _________________ "They only have one policy. Deny everything." -X

Any reason why you are interested in this incident in particular?

Sorry, never heard of the incident.,...and unless one is researching for a book on ufos to fill in the misssing sections , I can't imagine that it's useful info after all this time. _________________ "Some say the valley has always been haunted ever since River ran.

I tend to have a fascination with the obscure, and this case is certainly that, though it's fairly well documented as UFO
crashes go. I just feel like there's more to it, because if the object was truly a UFO, then what happened to it? Why has no one
pursued the incident past the point of impact? Because if it was recovered, Nellis AFB had it, it may have even landed on some part
of this massive base. Area 51 isn't far from the alleged area of the crash. It could have ended up there, and effectively
vanished. Also, since I live not far from where it happened, I can check it out for myself.
But then again, I believe the Aztec, N.M., crash really happened Another lost cause.... _________________ "They only have one policy. Deny everything." -X

Well....personally I'm not convinced any ufos have ever crashed so I guess I'm one of those mean old skeptics.
BTW, Dr Vallee in Revelations lists 17 alleged ufo crashes over the years though he is also skeptical about all of them. _________________ "Some say the valley has always been haunted ever since River ran.

Sorry, the previous reply was meant for Skeptical, but to answer your post:You said you've never heard of the incident, and
I don't think most people have. What better reason to look into it? If it's real, there's a lot left to uncover that no one has found.
As for how useful it could be after all this time, Roswell precedes this case by almost 15 years, and people are still quite a bit
interested in that. Any crash/retrieval that's made more credible is another crack in the wall of secrecy.
But I know I've proven nothing. That's what I hope to do. If I fail, it was still worth the effort. _________________ "They only have one policy. Deny everything." -X

Deny - I think that this was a fairly high profile case at the time. I'm not sure who has custody of the old APRO files but Jim and Coral Lorenzen were very active at that time (especially in the Western US) and they probably investigated it extensively.
Unfortunately, it seems their old files have not been generally available to researchers for over 10 years. I understand, however, that Project 1947 has had some success in gaining access to them. Their website is www.project1947.com.
Project 1947 is an active group but you'd never know it from their website (the What's New section dates from December 2005!). They appear to be a very tight-lipped, low-profile group so I'm not sure how helpful they might be. Never hurts to ask.

Good luck and I hope you find out something interesting.
I think though when something is seen to be falling we should first assume ('Occams razor'..) it's military or astronomical then use the alien hypothesis as a last resort. _________________ "Some say the valley has always been haunted ever since River ran.
