Old John, and I do mean old, has decided to flaunt his service record these days even though he says he wasn't going to and chastised others for doing so in the past (like Kerry).
Interesting enough he graduated at the very bottom of his class at military school and some say if it wasn;t for his dad and grandad being admirals he wouldn't even have gotten in.

Ah....a man we can trust for president.

McCain was also one of the Keating 5. He has demonstrated bad judgement in the past....on more than one issue.
His military record is not as "clean" as we are led to believe. And, he was not the ONLY pow to have been captured and tortured.
His wife is no saint either. She was addicted to pain pills.
She met him when he was still married and one month after his divorce, he married her.
Kerrys wife was an heiress to the Heinz company...and Cindy McCain is closely connected to Budweiser!!
McCain conveniently leaves out the real facts...must be getting senile lol

Personally, I don't care about either man's wife - and I don't think any of the rest of us should either. I'm pretty much convinced that the part of the brain that a man uses to choose a wife has nothing to do with the intellectual, decision-making part. So the alleged indiscretions and improprieties that may occur in one's personal life may have absolutely no bearing on a person's ability to be a leader and a statesman.

As for McCain's academic record, again, it may be indicative of nothing. Lack of academic success does not mean that a person is not intelligent. It may mean that he or she learns in different ways. Also, when did pure intelligence ever buy anyone anything? I have a nephew who has a genius-level IQ who drives a truck for a living. Meanwhile, I have a good friend and associate who was never anything more than an average student - yet somehow he's managed to become a millionaire.

So all of these points you bring up may or may not having any bearing McCain's ability to be an able leader. If you want to support Obama, fine. Please do. But why do we insist on justifying our actions by subjecting candidates to scrutiny that would find Mother Theresa lacking? Rolling Eyes

Skep
Nowdays the position of First Lady seems to be as important as the Presidency!!
They made a big issue about Kerrys military service and HE actually served in Vietnam..unlike GWB!
They also condemned his wife for being an heiress to the Heinz company...as if that were a bad thing.
So, sadly yes, it seems those kinds of things DO matter in an election.
Neither party has been able to produce a real promising candidate and it always comes down to voting for the lesser of two evils. A lot of the time we are actually voting against someone rather than for someone!!

Sacm - the media may want you to think they matter but I stand by my opinion that they do not. These "Entertainment Tonight" style issues are purely diversions designed to fill time on 24-hour news channels. The media does this because they don't know how to report on the real issues. Real issues can't be summed up in sound bites. They take time and skill to explain - and the media is either unable or unwilling to do it.

They let themselves off the hook by saying the average American has neither the intelligence or the attention-span to understand the true issues. But the fact is, they continue to do a great disservice to this country by constantly diverting us from the difficult and complex issues that truly face us.

I'm not sure if McCain decided to use his military servie in his campaign or if he was forced to by attacks from the left. Recently, Gen. Wesley Clark basically said "all he did was fly a plane," and almost from the beginning of his campaign, there were accusations that he willingly colluded with the enemy during his 5 and a half years in captivity.

And while Kerry also did serve, he did smarmy things like have his crew film him while on duty for later use during his political career.

Gee.....maybe you should ask the neo-cons that in the last two elections. They consistently attacked Kerry on his military record and we have a term now called being 'Swift Boated'. But when Dubya's record ,or non-record of service in actual fact since he was in the states and had easy time, was brought up it was seen as being dirty tricks.
It's interesting how it's ok for the flag waving maroons on the right to do these things but when the liberals do them they are called un patriotic. What a freaking joke.

Simple truth..? IMO McCain would not be anywhere today in politics if it wasn't for his father and his connections to Washington right wing military elites. And Dubya would never had run for any office either in Texas or DC if it wasn't for his family past history. He couldn't manage a lemonade stand imho and his business track record shows that.
And before some start calling me a liberal supporter I feel the same can be said for many Dems who are running now and in the near past.
But if one looks at the record closely over the last 4 decades the right wing has done far more dirty tricks than the lefties. Does anyone recall Watergate..?

Yes, there have been plenty of dirty tricks played in the last 40 years of US politics and the ultra-conservatives (I won't necessarily say the Republicans) seem to lead by a wide margin in their ability to plan and execute these attacks. All this has served to do is run off the very people we need most to provide fair, thoughtful and selfless leadership for this country.

I am to the point where I don't think it will make much difference who wins in November. The country and the world are such that it would take a superman to make much of a change for the better. Unfortunately, neither McCain nor Obama hail from Krypton.

Well, Doc, that remote chance that I might vote for Obama went right out the window yesterday when he announced that it was more important for Americans to learn Spanish than it was for Hispanics in the United States to learn English. What an unbelievably bad, bad idea. Even the usually liberal CNN raked him over the coals for that remark.

I'm sorry but, the more I hear from this man, the more convinced I am that he has at least as much potential as GW to do this country irreparable harm. Sad

Here I agree with you. Anyone who immigrates (emmigrate?) to this country needs to learn English....period.
As a matter of fact English is fast becoming the global language so why learn Spanish?
At any rate if I moved to France I would try to learn French to get a better feel for the culture if nothing else.

If you lived in California, you would know why!!
I DO agree that anyone who immigrates here should learn and use English.
I am disgusted wherever I go in California...especially here in the San Joaquin Valley. Spanish is much more prevalent that English!! It is even very hard to find a good job here....unless you can speak Spanish!! That really makes me see red.
I wish Obama had not made that statement...but even so....the other alternative is Mcain and that scares me more!!
I may just write in Hillarys name!!!
I refuse to vote for McCain.
