I can't say I have had any problems other than posting at dept 47.
Sometimes my dsl is slower than normal but not that often. |
I don't think DSL would be affected, if I remember correctly that is over the cable wire, no? |
Yes it comes down the cable phone line on a separate signal from the phone. _________________ "Some say the valley has always been haunted ever since River ran.

DSL comes in via a telephone line, Will. DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line, btw. DSL is probably less prone to slow-downs than cable. Cable subscribers all tap into the same line eventually and, the more users, the slower it gets.
As for the periodic trouble with our hosting service, they are relatively new and they have grown very quickly. They have more than their share of hiccups but the service they provide costs us nothing. I wanted to go with a free service provider so that we wouldn't run into the trouble we had with our last home, where functionality went away when the managers of the site stopped paying for service.
Yes, it is exasperating when things don't work correctly but the idea of just picking up and moving to another provider isn't as easy as it sounds. I assume that no one wants to lose the 12000 posts we've received so far. To move all the posts will cost money. Also, other service providers require the administrator to do a lot more system maintenance work. I'm not lazy but, frankly, I don't have the knowledge or the bandwidth to perform the upkeep myself.
If I knew then what I know now, I would not have set up D47 with them. But, unless someone drops several hundred dollars into my lap to finance a re-lo, I am willing to bear with freeforums a while longer. They've improved the service enough to warrant us hanging around to see if they can work out the rest of the bugs.

I'm more than happy with the forums here and at The Road Home Skep - compared to the problems we had at EZ these guy's are GREAT! The options and tools are great too - I really really like phpBB, I think the reason we went with the other at TRH was it's flat simplicity and many millions of users that have search functions.Otherwise I would have lobbied for these boards.
I couldn't remember if DSL was telephone or Cable or both. Cable line is shielded, some telephone line is shielded as well. Those woldn't be affected by local jamming of RF signals like space systems and us here at Air-internet that operate of 800 MHZ RF. Notice that 800 MHZ is a sub band of 2400MHZ. (By a third) So, we got a tiny signal through but not the blazing speed of it's normal band width. We have full T-1 speed normally. I can get a second node for about 15 bucks a month but I just don't need it. (YET!) LOL We were stuck with roughly dial up speed all weekend - I was pulling my hair out. The slowdowns were across the net, not just here where I only had minor problems and everything eventually posted and came up.
Anyone else out there on satellite? Or RF HF? I'm still curious. _________________ SOMNIUM MENS est IANUA ut INFINITIO
