I've read about them in one of Daniel Pinchbecks' books called 2012. He went to someplace in South America to expereicne the ayahuasca trip with this group (he had taken it before) and is a believer in the power of psychedelics to give visions about the nature of reality. He also writes about this drug in Breaking Open The Head.
