Is America Anti-Intellectual?

Interesting article about a new book on intellectuals in Ameica. He says she overstates the case about the dumbing down in America...what do you hink?

I think it would be hard to argue that there has been a marked dumbing-down of popular American culture in the past 50 years. Every time I think we've plumbed the bottom, someone figures out a way to take us a rung lower.

The thing that really worries me, however, is the fact that many of this country's best and brightest are not reproducing. The number of couples opting to stay childless is very disconcerting to me. I don't know why this is but the people we most need to be parents in this country just don't seem willing to step up to the challenge. I'm afraid that America will go the way of the Irish Setter - nice to look at but dumber than a box of rocks. Sad
